OPTEX’s fiber optic sensors and copper sensors are manufactured by FiberSensys, a group company of OPTEX and the only fiber sensor manufacturer offering products compliant with the U.S. Air Force’s PL-1 security standard. These sensors provide advanced perimeter protection solutions and have been trusted for over 25 years in the critical sites.
Fiber optic sensors are one of the core technologies used in Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), and are particularly well-suited for environments that demand high security or involve harsh installation conditions. With advanced signal processing, false alarm reduction capabilities, and exceptional durability, these sensors are deployed globally in critical sites such as military facilities, energy infrastructure (including power plants and gas facilities), transportation hubs (such as airports and seaports), and data centers.
The detection mechanism is based on laser pulses transmitted through fiber optic cables installed along fences or other perimeter structures. When external vibrations or pressure are applied to the cable, the characteristics of the light traveling through it change. These changes are continuously monitored by the Alarm Processing Unit (APU), which uses advanced algorithms to analyze and classify the signals. The system is programmed to generate alarms only in response to disturbances caused by actual intrusion attempts —such as climbing over or cutting the fence— while ignoring environmental factors like wind, nearby traffic vibrations or small animal movements.
OPTEX also offers copper-based sensors developed by Fiber SenSys. These sensors incorporate Fiber SenSys’s proprietary End-to-End Correlation (E2EC) technology, which enhances both system reliability and detection accuracy.
The E2EC technology enables signal transmission and reception from both ends of the sensor cable, allowing for correlation-based processing that improves detection performance. It also provides redundancy, ensuring that detection capabilities are maintained even if part of the cable is damaged. Furthermore, the system supports point location, enabling precise identification of intrusion points, which contributes to faster security response and more efficient area management.
These copper sensors are deployed with high reliability across a wide range of sites, including critical infrastructure, energy facilities, and storage facilities.
